Wivenhoe "Virtual" Art Trail

The Christmas Wivenhoe Art trail is on... all be it virtually! As you may remember the September show cracked with creative enthusiasm and was a real tonic in these Covid times. The artists and makers were all set to open their doors again on the 27th November, but unfortunately this is no longer going ahead, however, our ‘virtual’ show runs from this date until Christmas Eve.

Participating makers are to be found on the website with a flavour of what they make and how to contact them directly. Indeed if you saw any work at the September show this is the ideal place to locate makers work and contact them directly. We urge all lovers of the arts and crafts to follow us on Facebook - Wivenhoe Art Trail, Instagram - @wivenhoe_art_trail. You never know we may even have a video chat or two if we’re brave enough!

As if that wasn’t inventive enough, many makers will be dressing their studio windows with work for your delight and delectation. We all need a bit of joy in our lives at present and with the lack of physical shopping during this lockdown we felt a spot of truly unique window shopping was just what was needed.

We have urged all our artists with visibility to the street to brighten up their windows with beautiful work, for sale. Selections can be made at a safe distance and deliveries or collections arranged, following all current safety measures. The intention is to offer an added lift to your next walk around this square mile of Lower Wivenhoe’s creative community and enjoy a visual treasure trail of your may even find that perfect gift or nudge a partner into the right direction for your own Christmas gift!

Wivenhoe is renowned for its diverse community of artists and makers and a plethora of local talent display; ceramics, collage, paintings, textiles, photography and much more. ‘We will undoubtedly miss chatting with all our valued customers and art lovers but, with a few fairy lights and creative ingenuity we’ll all go to town on making the best of the current situation’.

We invite you to download the map from the Website to discover handmade treasures as you amble around Wivenhoe's quaint streets for a walk of discovery and delight.

This will enable all art loving customers to browse, contact artists and makers directly and purchase online or by phone. Safety is paramount and all will be complying with current safety guidelines when collecting and or delivering. If in doubt, all makers are offering a voucher system to ensure your loved one gets just the right gift this year.

Shipyard Studios venue and the Sentinel gallery are also taking part, showing a selection of hand picked makers in their windows too, so plenty to see.

Wivenhoe’s artistic community has been established for decades and its grass-roots or should we say mud-roots reputation has not been deterred. We are already thinking of next year and look forward to welcoming you all safely back next Spring... in person!

Merry Christmas and many thanks for your continued support of local artists and makers.
