Proposed CBC WTC Grant 18/19

edited November 10 in General Wivenhoe Talk
That time of year again.

On the agenda [pdf] for CBC Cabinet 22 November is:

2018/19 Revenue Budget, Fees and Charges and Financial Reserves

It includes grants for Parish and Town Councils. All councils will receive an 11% reduction on the previous financial year. Which leaves WTC expecting £8,026.

Only West Mersea (£11,813) and Tiptree (£10,906) will receive more funding.

As a reminder - £8,000 was spent in the previous financial year when ten residents twice triggered a by-election.

Stanway,Tiptree, West Mersea  and Wivenhoe are the only ones to have a cut. The rest all have an increase  according to the end figures

  • @kst in some cases the fixed £500 revenue grant is larger than the 11% of their starting figure which is why some appear to have gone up
  • £8,026.?

As I understand it Quay Quilters recently raised £4,500 for the new mini bus.

Are we being taken for a ride?

  • Oh Gawd.

Please don't start that silly Independence discussion again.

Good grief anyone would think you own this Forum!

Merely trying to highlight what a paltry sum £8,026 is in the wider scheme of things.

Personally feel that devolving some powers from CBC wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

  • Hmmm...   Many areas seem to have doubled their income?
  • Oh yeah - it looks like Council Tax will rise by 2.8% in 2018/19 - or £5 a month for a typical Band D property.

  • Jason, with the greatest of respect, that "silly independence" question becomes more and more relevant. The published details of what area gets what doesn't really convey the full story, perhaps CBC should add another couple of columns, one showing the amount raised and another showing the amount deducted in paying the council tax on council property which would clearly show the net amount awarded to each area.

A call for independence would also highlight the community's disgust of the construction of the mega city, a move which all our locally elected representatives stated they would oppose but seem to have only paid lip service to their manifesto comments.

CBC would certainly take note especially after the press got hold of the same suggestion by Tiptree and East Bergholt.

As a community we could approach Tendering Council and say we would be delighted to join them if the veto any building to the south of the A 120.

Are CBC arrogant enough to think that being good Labour, Lib Dem supporters that we will make a bit of a noise but ultimately comply with their demands.

it is not time for a more radical approach and have our voices heard!

I would point out I am an elected representative along with the rest of WTC cllrs and we are doing everything possible to fight the impact of the mega city on our town. But the really bad guys on that issue are TDC. To escape CBC we would have to turn to them, as real independence isn't practical. Real independence would mean no-one would have to listen to us, and they would build on every parcel of land they each own.

@liberty you had your chance at the last WTC Annual meeting to come up with your list of ten leavers.

    What happened?

If you want to take back control then you will be dealing with Tendring, not Tendering.
  • Jason,

I was a little busy with other matters and the names can be presented at any time and anyway it has been interesting to view what our local politicians say and actually do.
