Wivenhoe ArtSeaMusic festival 9th September

The ArtSeaMusic Festival is a community celebration of the creativity, industry and heritage of Wivenhoe, encompassing many of the things that make it such a special place, from art and live music to its history with the river.
Building on the success of last year’s festival, we once again aim to have a packed programme of events during the day and evening, with something for everyone’s tastes, young and old.

This years event will be held on Saturday 9th September.

If anyone would like to join in the fun and run an event on the day, please let me know the details by emailing artseamusic@gmail.com and I will add it to the event guide and map.

Thanks Duncan

    DESCRIPTION
    Scottee + Radical ESSEX present
    From Wivenhoe, With Love
The life and times of Richard Chopping + Denis Wirth-Miller

2017 marks the 50th year since the partial decriminalisation of sex between men in England and Wales - Essex based artist Scottee is using this anniversary to focus on the lives of two trailblazers who set the then sleepy fishing village of Wivenhoe alight.
Artists Nando Messias, La John Joseph and Mem Morrison recollect the lives of the notorious couple in a performance made up entirely of local gossip, hearsay, speculation and distant memory.
Come listen to the factually incorrect, unrecorded histories of two of Essex’s finest queers.

  • This is also happening in Wivenhoe on the day - might be worth getting in touch with Radical Essex to coordinate https://www.radicalessex.uk/event/from-wivenhoe-with-love/

    Creel 3‘ Launch

    5pm Saturday 9th September

    Wivenhoe Bookshop

    A Wivenhoe ArtSea Festival event

Join us to raise a glass to Creel 3, the third anthology of short stories, nature writing and poems by postgraduate students from the Department of Literature, Film and Theatre studies at the University of Essex.

The book is published by Wivenbooks, the Wivenhoe Bookshop’s imprint, and has been beautifully designed by John Wallett. The event will include readings by the contributors.

The Centre for Creative Writing has a strong tradition of teaching that emphasizes innovation and experimentation. They are passionate about encouraging our students to write and create in fresh and exciting directions – discovering their unique voices and producing original works that will inspire and invigorate the field of literature.

From the views atop high rocky peaks, to the observation of turmoil deep in the human spirit, these works, based on the theme of ‘elements’, showcase the variety of writing that students are creating at Essex.

Creel 3 is introduced by Dr Adrian May,  and the pieces selected by Matthew de Abaitua, Dr James Canton and Dr Holly Pester. The editors are Danielle Bell, Lelia Ferro, Molly Shrimpton and Marieke Sjerps.
