Mayor's Fund Events 2017 - 2018

The new Mayoral Year will start in mid May, and we will be holding a series of events to raise money for the Mayor's Fund.

I will be putting events on the Forum as our plans progress, and updating it as plans are firmed up.

Our current plans are as follows:

Saturday 20 May  Tea with the Team.  Family friendly tea party. Venue TBA.

Saturday 27 May  Sale Trail and Table-top sale.  Various venues.

Sunday 28 May  Beating the Bounds (and other ancient customs). Various venues.

Monday 29 May 'Metal Monday', including music concert.  Various venues.

Saturday 10 June  Yeomanry Band Concert. Venue TBA.

Saturday 1 July  Fete on the Field. KGV Playing Field.

I hope you will all be able to support these and future events as they happen, because all money raised will be put back into our Community.

Thanks.

I keep getting the answering service for this but no follow up after leaving a message....?
  • All,

The plans for the planned events are moving forward!

I've received some 'Yorkshire Tea' today from Taylors of Harrogate, by way of sponsorship for the afternoon tea next Sunday.

The telephone number above is now up and running, and I will change the message on it.  Sorry about the confusion.

if you wish to participate in the Wivenhoe Sale Trail, all we ask is for a £5.00 donation to the Mayor's Fund, and your table will be included in a map or listing to be given out on the day.  If you wish to sell at a central point, that will cost you £10.00 for a table. Venue details TBC.

If you wish to participate in Metal Monday, similar arrangements.  Let us have your address.  We will collect all metal and wire scrap (but sorry no Fridges), and any small appliances (working or not).  If they are working, please bag them. All we require is a donation to the Mayor's Fund on the day.  Bigger amount, bigger donation, hopefully!! All scrap will be sold (legally) and all money raised will be divided between the Mayor's Fund and Wivenhoe Repair Reuse Recycle CIC.  We have the necessary Environment Agency permits to move scrap.

Please use 07704 947288, and we will have a Facebook and Hotmail presence in the next 48 hours.

    Thanks.

    All,

The Wivenhoe Sale Trail will happen on Saturday 27 May, and you can have a stall at your own home, garage or garden for a £5.00 donation, or a table at the William Loveless Hall for £10.00.  All donations to the Mayor's Fund.

We will also be having a craft fair area within the William Loveless Hall.  £10.00 per table.

    Thanks.

  • To respond to the enquiry on a separate thread.

This is on the Bank Holiday weekend.

Today's weather is a reminder that it can rain.  If it does, we will have a contingency plan to get people undercover.

Reminder too that we will have a craft section in the WLH space, and would encourage any crafters to give it a try.  If you like it and if it is successful, we will look at running a full blown craft fair indoors in the autumn.  We are also still planning a craft tent at the 'Fete on the Field' on 1 July.

    Thanks.

    Marika,

    Thanks for your prompt.

We hope that people can start selling at 9am, although not everybody will sell all day.

We will NOT be using the WLH, because everybody wants to be outside.

I will be at the WLH at 9, with some guides and address lists.  If I have to leave, these will be left on the table there.

We will produce the guides later this afternoon based on latest information.

For any bookings done after that, we will amend the guide by hand or produce a supplement, so you can keep booking throughout today.

Use 07704 947288 for more info, or the contacts on the 'poster' above.

    Thanks.

What are the size limits for collection Mike? For example, I have an old microwave oven and dishwasher that could go (as scrap - they're not working).

    Both OK.

The real restrictions are no fridges and freezers, as we have to pay £25.00 per item to CBC to dispose of them.

    Thanks.

  • All,

I will be outside WLH tomorrow at 09:00 with a list of addresses and some maps for the Wivenhoe Sale Trail.

Everybody wants to be outside, so we will not be using the hall, but I will be there to kick things off.

There's a lot on in Wivenhoe over the weekend, as Jason says on another thread, so I hope everyone has a good time.

    Thanks.

Loved your comments. It has been a great weekend so far.

Yesterday, I was at St Mary's Church where a small enthusiastic band of Wivenhoe people received a blessing before leaving for 'Beating the Bounds', accompanied by their very knowledgeable guide, Councillor Bob Needham.

I could not join them because Mariette and I went to represent Wivenhoe at the 'Cinque Port Liberty of Brightlingsea Blessing and Reclaiming of the Waters'.  That is best described as the equivalent of our Beating the Bounds on water. We were lucky to go on the Thames Barge 'Edme', which was built at Harwich in 1898. A truly memorable day.

A reminder that it is 'Metal Monday' today in Wivenhoe, so if anybody has any scrap metal, appliances (not fridges) or wire, it is not too late to call on 07704 947288.

    Thanks.

  • Quick update.

The Essex Yeomanry Band Concert originally planned for 10 June will NOT now take place.

    Thanks.

    MikeNewton

  • All,

An update on 'Metal Monday'.  It was a great success, and it is something that we will continue throughout the year.  A big thanks to everybody who donated their scrap and unwanted items.

As well as raising a three figure sum for the Mayor's Fund purely from recycling metal, it threw up a few bonuses.  Chris was able to get some items that he will be able to repair and resell for the Repair Café project.  We also obtained some bikes for another of his projects which helps youngsters throughout Essex fix and re-use bikes.

We also collected other re-useable items which have been made available to other community groups and CIC's in Wivenhoe.

Of course the work which Chris does helps Wivenhoe to punch above its weight, because the Wivenhoe Repair Reuse Recycle CIC and his Repair Cafes are is now highly visible throughout Essex.

If anybody has any more metal or re-useable items to donate, please call 07704 947288.

    Thanks.

  • Good work Mike!

It will be held in the Jubilee Gardens and the King George V Field.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Mayor's Fund and the Jo Cox Foundation.
