Wivenhoe Watching Wildlife 2017 Programme of Events

Sorry we have been a little quiet on the Wivenhoe Watching Wildlife front of late, although Wivenhoe Forumwatchers (or those who follow Glyn, Richard or myself on Twitter) will have seen the fruits of Glyn’s photo endeavours over the winter, and many of you may well have accompanied Richard on one of his monthly walks.

We have just decided on our outline programme for this summer, so here are a few dates for your diaries. Further details on each event will be circulated nearer the time.

April 29 or 30 – Glyn’s sponsored birdwatch, from Colchester to Brightlingsea. Anyone welcome join him for all or part of the day.

5 May – ‘Mini-springwatch’: a shorter than usual indoor event, hopefully followed by BBQ and mothing. This will be the initial event for the Wivenhoe Wildlife Festival week, when many ‘wild’ activities will be taking place around the town, including Richard’s art exhibition in the Bookshop the following weekend.

7 May – Dawn Chorus walk

15 July walk to and around Cockaynes Wood, for Dragonflies, butterflies etc

16 Sept – walk to Whitehouse Beach, looking especially at maritime/marine wildlife

6 Oct – Autumnwatch, back at our usual home of the Sailing Club.

13 October – moth event for National Moth Night

29 Oct – Autumn walk, fungus foray

We appreciate these are very sketchy plans at the moment, but hope we will see many of you at one or more of them. In the meantime, enjoy the Spring…!
