New habitat across the river

Essex Wildlife Trust has recently completed and soon will be opening a significant area of new habitat, created by managed realignment,  across the river from Barrier Marsh. This new short film gives a good feel of what to expect should you visit in the future:

  • Does that effectively mean its an extension of the existing Fingringhoe nature reserve?
Great news, hope to check it out soon.
yes, they bought some arable land adjacent to the reserve, and breached the sea wall to allow seawater in (managed realignment). It is now part of the reserve, and like you I look forward to visiting when it is properly open, as opposed to just viewing it from our side of the river.
  • It is already open to the public and the new hide provides great views of waders roosting at high tide and feeding as the tide recedes.
