Bad Parking Competition
  • Let's liven up the quiet Summer months with a new competition: Worst Parking Award. Someone regularly, including today, plonks their car in Brook Street on 1) double yellow lines 2) a pedestrian refuge 3) a blind corner - a triple whammy! That's my nomination.
  • Its parked there regularly!!
  • There's so many, where do I start? The bus stop outside the Co-op, blocking the whole road when a bus comes the other way. Also on the junction of Park Road and Belle Vue road, opposite the opticians, making it impossible to see any traffic until you're already across the road. As much as we may not like them some yellow lines are there for a reason, as in these cases.
  • Must be Vine Parade, Volvo estate parked at nose in at a dead 90 degrees, 4 ft out from the kerb,
blocking one and half lanes, well done!
  • I think this thread would do better if there were some pictures.

People seem totally oblivious in their selfish expectation that they can park where they like.  On Saturday the Coop car park was empty, as was the side parking arrea, and a car pulled up to park on the double yellow lines, half on the pavement, and blocking the lorry access.

The four young people that got out to go in the Coop actually had a lot futher to walk than if they had parked properly!

Perhaps the shame of a photograph would make them realise just how bad / stupid some of these instances are?

  • Claremont Rd near Denham Close - all four wheels on the pavement in front of an empty driveway...
  • If the carpark in wivenhoe was polieced properly i.e commuters using it then there wouldnt be such a parking problem in wivenhoe as for CO-Op with the rear carpark nearly always full (inadequate too!) Where does one suggest parking when visitng the CO-OP>??????

  • also im not going to park all the wy out of the back of the co-op, walk round just for a 2 min purchase....
  • Parking in the bus stop will get you a £60 fine if you are caught.

Stopping in the area marked by the zig zag lines on the approach to the zebra crossing will get you a £60 fine and 3 points on your licence. Fight it in court and lose and it can become up to a £1000 fine.

That could be a very expensive pint of milk.
  • I fought it in court in 2010 and won....as i was sitting in the car engine on and in gear and not technically parking
  • >  Where does one suggest parking when visitng the CO-OP>????

I have never yet been unable to park at the Coop properly, although admit that I have only lived in Wivenhoe for 45 years.

With regard to your question, the answer is 'Legally please" with perhaps some consideration for others.

  • Keith, there is a website you can send your pictures of people's bad parking to if you feel strongly enough about it. They also have a Twitter feed. It's name is rather rude so I don't think the proprietor of this here fine message board would appreciate me posting it, but if you Google 'you park like a ...' I'm sure you'll find it. I may even post some pictures of the selfish parking outside the Co-op.
  • Having to park illegally is by no means selfish..... What erks me more is people who resort to side sweeps while their head is stuck up their posteria
  • And what irks me is people who think they can just park where they please regardless of the inconvenience or danger their selfishness may cause others, yet complain about commuters not playing by the rules in the town's car park.

There are zig zag lines on the approach to the zebra outside the Co-op crossing for a reason, for the safety of people using the crossing so their view of the traffic, and the traffic's view of them, is not restricted by cars left on them by people who can't be bothered to walk 30 or so yards from the car park.
  • The zigzags are nowhere near the part of the road opposite to the entrance to te co-op
  • Matt, the zig zag lines go right past the door of the Co-op, past the cashpoint and down to the bus stop. There are often cars parked illegally along that stretch so I'm not sure what you're on about, but my first post in this thread was in response to Edwardbear who said  "There's so many, where do I start? The bus stop outside the Co-op, blocking the whole road when a bus comes the other way."

My second response about the 'You park like a...' website was to Keith who said "Perhaps the shame of a photograph would make them realise just how bad / stupid some of these instances are?"

My last post was in response to you attacking me even though I had not commented on anything you had said, and anyway I don't know where in fact you do park illegally as you claim. The thread is about bad parking and if you want to make the sole stand here to defend it in the spirit of debate that is up to you but please at least read the posts before attacking people.
  • Do you like trolling Matt.
